Is there such a thing as working class food?

Apart from the local caff.
These days, oysters are considered a rich person's food, but a hundred years ago they were eaten mainly by poorer people. Does that mean that in another 100 years, the Full English will be the preserve of toffs?

imo it would be the menu from any decent and genuine roadside transport cafe on most english motorways and i do not mean a Little Chef !

TMTY, cold lamb was my bete noir. that was monday's meal if we had leg of lamb the day before. Roast lamb and mint sauce was nice but always marred by the prospect of cold lamb next day.

Spam fritters.
Most Monday's i had fried cold meat (left overs from the roast the day before, roast beef was the worst, which was chewy as fuck the day before as the old dear always over cooked it) fried mash and baked beans.

This is very close to what I do for a living Ron. Look at the board right now, there are tons of threads which I have no responded to because I have nothing to say.
I am working on something on offal this morning, so I have all these resources literally open and to take a break, I add something. Sorry it bothers you.

On bread and butter pudding
I would say that the fact that it is in a cookery book this early as well as the receipt (recipe) itself, argues against it being working class.
From The Compleat Housewife by Eliza Smith (at least as earlier as the 6th edition 1734)
A Bread and Butter Pudding for Fasting Days
Take a two-penny Loaf, and a pound of fresh Butter; spread it in very thin slices, as to eat; cut them off as you spread them, and stone half a pound of Raisins, and wash a pound Currants; then put Puff-past at the bottom of a dish, and lay a Row of your Bread and Butter, strew a handful of Currants, and a few Raisins, and some little bits of Butter, and do so till your dish is full; then boil three pints of Cream, and thicken it when cold with yolks of ten Eggs, a grated Nutmeg, a little Salt, near half pound of Sugar, some Orange-flower-water, and pour this in just as the Pudding is going into the Oven.
